Do Moroccan Citizens Need a Visa to Visit the United States?

A Moroccan citizen who wants to visit the United States for a holiday, family visit or short tourist trip normally needs a B-2 visitor visa, often issued as a combined B1/B2 visa. The main steps are simple to understand: complete the official DS-160 application, pay the required fee, book an appointment using the U.S. visa appointment service for Morocco, attend any required interview at the U.S. Consulate General in , and wait for the consular decision. The difficult part is not memorizing these steps. It is preparing truthful information that explains why you want to visit, how you can pay for the journey, and why your visit is temporary.

This guide from Moorish Tour explains the process in clear English for people living in Morocco. It covers the DS-160, documents, fees, interview questions, common mistakes and what happens after approval or refusal. The information is based primarily on official U.S. Department of State guidance. Moorish Tour is a Morocco travel company, not the U.S. government, a consulate, or a visa-approval service. Always follow the instructions provided by the U.S. Consulate and its appointment system for your own application.

Yes. A person traveling on an ordinary Moroccan passport generally must obtain a U.S. visitor visa before going to the United States for tourism. Morocco is not a participant in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, so Moroccan passport holders should not plan to use ESTA as a replacement for a B-2 visa. Travelers who hold another passport may have different rules according to their nationality and personal circumstances.

A B-2 visa is for activities such as a vacation, sightseeing, visiting family and friends, or certain medical visits. You might hope to see New York, Washington, Miami or another American city. You can explain that trip in ordinary language without producing a complicated professional itinerary. It is more important that your purpose matches the visa category and is consistent with your application.

A visitor visa is different from permission to work, study toward a degree or immigrate to the United States. If your real purpose is employment, university study or permanent settlement, you should investigate the appropriate visa instead of describing the trip as tourism. Read the official U.S. Department of State visitor visa information before starting.

VISA BASICS

B-2 vs. B1/B2 Visa: Which One Should You Choose?

The U.S. system uses B-1 for certain temporary business visits and B-2 for tourism, family visits and medical treatment. Many approved applicants receive a combined B1/B2 visa. For example, someone attending a short professional meeting and then taking a few days of holiday may fall into a combination of permitted activities. Someone visiting a relative for two weeks is normally describing a B-2 purpose.

The difference matters because a visitor visa does not authorize ordinary employment in the United States. It also does not replace a student visa for a full course of academic study. Temporary business discussions and conferences may be permitted under B-1, but actually working for a U.S. employer is a different matter. Applicants should describe the intended activity accurately rather than choosing a category because they think one is easier to obtain.

Visa categorySuitable examplesNot suitable for
B-2 visitorHoliday, sightseeing, family or friend visits, certain medical treatmentTaking a U.S. job or moving permanently
B-1 business visitorBusiness meetings, some conferences and contract discussionsRegular paid employment in the United States
B1/B2 combinedTemporary travel involving permitted business and tourism activitiesActivities requiring a separate visa category

If you are unsure, use the official visitor visa activity examples rather than advice from a social-media video. Your actual purpose of travel matters more than a label suggested by a third party.

SIX APPLICATION STEPS

U.S. Tourist Visa Application from Morocco: Six Clear Steps

For most first-time applicants, the process follows six practical stages. The exact order of payment and appointment actions can depend on the local appointment portal, so treat the portal's instructions as the final authority. Before making payments, check that you are using a legitimate site reached through official embassy or U.S. government directions.

  1. 1Confirm that B-2 or B1/B2 matches your trip
  2. 2Complete the online DS-160 application and save the confirmation page
  3. 3Create or sign into the authorized appointment account for Morocco
  4. 4Pay the non-refundable visa application fee as the portal instructs
  5. 5Schedule and attend the interview if required, with your documents
  6. 6Check the official outcome and passport-return instructions

The DS-160 is available through the official Consular Electronic Application Center. Do not pay someone merely to open a free online form. You may ask for assistance if you need help reading English or understanding questions, but the answers must remain true and you are responsible for what is submitted in your name.

“A successful application begins with a clear and honest explanation of a temporary trip—not with a script that promises approval.”

ELIGIBILITY

Who Can Qualify for a U.S. Visitor Visa in Morocco?

The consular officer decides whether an applicant qualifies under U.S. immigration law. For a temporary visitor visa, an important issue is whether the person has a credible reason to return outside the United States after the trip. This is often described as showing ties to Morocco, but no one document automatically proves the case and no private travel agency can guarantee the outcome.

Relevant circumstances may include stable work, continuing studies, an established business, close family responsibilities, a home, or other meaningful commitments. The officer also considers whether the stated duration and expenses fit the applicant's situation. A person with a modest income can still have a genuine reason for a short trip; a large bank balance alone does not guarantee approval. Information is examined as a whole.

Applicants who operate a small business, work seasonally, freelance, study, or are supported by family should describe their situation honestly. For example, a self-employed shop owner might bring genuine registration or business documents if useful, while a student may be able to explain the timing of classes and examinations. Do not invent employment, fabricate reservations or buy property simply to create an appearance of ties.

DS-160 APPLICATION

How to Complete the DS-160 Form Correctly

The DS-160 is the online application for a temporary U.S. visa. It asks for identity details, passport information, travel purpose, employment and education history, previous travel, security questions and other personal background. Write names and dates carefully so they match your documents. If you have changed your name or have prior visas, answer the relevant questions accurately.

Before beginning, gather your passport, basic details of your intended trip, accommodation or U.S. contact information if known, work or study history, and previous international travel details. Save your application ID so you can return to an unfinished form when the system permits. Review every page rather than rushing to the final submission screen. Inconsistencies between the DS-160 and your interview answers can create unnecessary problems.

After submission, print or save the DS-160 barcode confirmation page; the U.S. government says the complete application does not need to be printed for the interview. Upload the photo as instructed, and follow the official requirements if the upload fails. The Department of State explains these points in its DS-160 frequently asked questions.

  • Use your real passport name and correct date of birth
  • Choose the truthful purpose and expected duration of travel
  • Provide accurate employment, education and travel history
  • Save the application ID and final confirmation page
  • Never claim false relatives, fake employment or invented travel history
  • Review the photo requirements before submitting

If you discover a mistake after submission, consult the official instructions rather than modifying an appointment record informally. In some situations a new DS-160 may be necessary, and the appointment system may need the updated barcode number.

CASABLANCA APPOINTMENT

Where to Book the U.S. Visa Interview in Morocco

Routine nonimmigrant visa interviews for applicants in Morocco are handled by the U.S. Consulate General in Casablanca. Applicants may travel there from cities such as , , , , , or other areas. Do not assume you can attend a routine tourist-visa interview at the U.S. Embassy in Rabat. Follow the instructions displayed by the official appointment service for Morocco.

The Embassy of Morocco's U.S. visa application overview describes the appointment process and points applicants to the Morocco service at U.S. Travel Docs Morocco. Scheduling accounts, payment methods, pickup rules and appointment availability can change, so use the current official portal for the exact sequence.

Plan transportation and an overnight stay only if you genuinely need one. Keep in mind that arriving for an interview does not guarantee a decision that day or immediate return of your passport. Review the consulate's security notice carefully: restrictions on phones, large bags and electronic items may apply. Do not rely on an unofficial agent's promised appointment date.

Traveling to Casablanca fromPractical planning advice
RabatPlan arrival with plenty of time for security and traffic
MarrakechConsider a morning train or a stay the night before an early interview
FesAllow extra time for intercity travel and unexpected delays
TangierCompare train options and confirm the appointment time before buying tickets
Agadir or southern MoroccoA previous-night hotel may reduce the risk of a delayed journey

If your trip also includes time around Morocco, our Morocco general travel information and guide to planning a Morocco tour provide unrelated destination advice. Neither page replaces the U.S. Consulate's interview instructions.

FEES & CHARGES

U.S. Tourist Visa Fee in Morocco and Possible Extra Charges

The published standard application processing fee for B visitor visas is US$185, generally non-refundable even if the application is refused. The method of payment and the amount shown in Moroccan dirhams are set through the local appointment process, so avoid relying on an old exchange rate shown in a blog post or video. Check the portal before paying, keep your receipt, and never send the fee to a personal account.

The U.S. reciprocity schedule lists no additional reciprocity issuance fee for B-1, B-2 or B1/B2 visas issued to Moroccan nationals. This is separate from the application fee. U.S. law also provides for a visa integrity fee on nonimmigrant visa issuance, and implementation or collection arrangements may change. Check the official government and payment instructions for any amounts actually due at the time of your application or issuance; do not assume every statutory fee is already collected in the same way.

DOCUMENT CHECKLIST

What Documents Do You Need for the Visa Interview?

The State Department identifies a current travel passport, DS-160 barcode confirmation, any required payment receipt, and the required photograph if the upload failed among its core documents. Your appointment letter may specify additional documents, rules or procedures. Passport-validity requirements should be checked against U.S. guidance and any nationality-specific exemptions; a common general rule is six months beyond the intended stay unless exempt.

The officer may request evidence supporting the reason for travel, your intention to leave after a temporary visit, and your ability to cover expenses. If you also want to understand the difference between incoming tourism to Morocco and outbound trips to the USA, see Moorish Tour’s Morocco Wonders travel overview as a separate travel topic. Reasonable supporting documents might include an employment letter, proof of lawful business activity, a student enrollment document, family information, past travel records or financial evidence. These are examples, not a universal checklist that every applicant must produce.

Do not hand over a large folder of unrelated papers unless the consular officer requests them. Keep originals secure and make clear copies only where the instructions require them. False documents or false statements can have serious consequences for future visa eligibility.

FINANCIAL PROOF

Bank Statements, Income and Sponsorship: What Is Enough?

There is no single official minimum bank balance that automatically qualifies every tourist visa applicant. The relevant question is whether the planned trip is financially believable given its length, activities and the resources available. A short visit with a reasonable budget may look very different from a long and expensive multi-city holiday.

Prepare genuine records that reflect your normal financial situation. Large deposits just before the interview may invite additional questions if they do not match your income; do not borrow money temporarily simply to display a higher balance. If someone else intends to pay some costs, explain the relationship and proposed arrangement truthfully, and bring supporting material if appropriate.

A friend or relative in the United States can sometimes help with accommodation, but a host does not take the place of your own eligibility. The State Department specifically explains that an invitation letter or Form I-134 affidavit of support is not required for a visitor visa and is not itself a deciding factor. Read the official visitor-visa document guidance rather than online claims about a fixed bank amount.

“There is no magic bank balance. A realistic trip and honest explanation are more useful than a financial figure chosen to impress an interviewer.”

INTERVIEW PREPARATION

U.S. Tourist Visa Interview Questions and Helpful Preparation

A consular interview is usually focused on straightforward matters: why you want to travel, where you will go, how long you intend to stay, what you do in Morocco, how the trip will be funded and whether you have traveled before. The questions vary with the application. Some interviews are short; others require more detail. Being asked few questions does not automatically mean either approval or refusal.

Answer in your own words. If the officer asks how long you will stay, a clear answer such as 'about ten days, mainly visiting my sister and seeing the city' is more useful than a speech memorized from a video. If you do not understand a question, calmly ask for it to be repeated or clarified. Never contradict a truthful DS-160 merely because you think a different answer sounds better.

Example interview questionWhat a clear answer should explain
Why do you want to go to the United States?Your genuine temporary tourist or family-visit purpose
How long will you stay?A realistic planned duration and reason for that length
Who will pay for the journey?Your actual funding arrangement
What do you do in Morocco?Your genuine job, business, study or other situation
Do you have relatives in the United States?Truthful family details when asked
When will you return?Your intended departure and relevant responsibilities
  • Read your DS-160 again before the appointment
  • Keep answers truthful, short and consistent
  • Bring supporting papers but show them when requested
  • Do not invent hotel bookings, jobs or travel plans
  • Dress comfortably and follow the consulate's security rules
  • Avoid anyone offering a guaranteed visa or a secret interview script

DIFFERENT APPLICANTS

Applicants Without a Job, Students and Self-Employed Moroccans

People sometimes assume that anyone without a formal monthly salary will automatically be refused. U.S. immigration law does not use such a simple rule. The consular officer assesses the individual situation, temporary purpose, financial resources and reasons to leave the United States after the visit. A student, self-employed person, retiree or parent may be able to explain genuine circumstances without claiming employment they do not have.

A student could describe their school or university program, upcoming classes and who is paying for the vacation. A self-employed applicant might explain the business activity and how it is managed. A parent or spouse may describe their real responsibilities and the planned family trip. Do not misrepresent unemployment, income, marital status or the reason for visiting America.

For readers interested in study-related group trips inside Morocco, Moorish Tour also publishes a separate Morocco student tours guide. That Morocco tour guide is not a substitute for a U.S. F-1 student visa: genuine study in the United States generally requires a different visa category.

VISITING FAMILY

Visiting Family or Friends in the USA: Do You Need an Invitation?

Visiting a sibling, cousin, parent or friend can be a normal B-2 travel purpose. Be honest about whom you will see, how you know them, their city and whether they will provide accommodation or help with costs. You can bring contact details and a basic travel outline if relevant. The key is that the trip should be temporary and correctly described.

An invitation letter can be useful for your personal planning, but it is not a mandatory approval document for a standard B visitor visa. The government's guidance explicitly says that applicants qualify based on their own circumstances and ties abroad rather than assurances from friends or family in the United States. Paying an agent to write a polished invitation letter is not a reliable way to obtain a visa.

A genuine visit may include time sightseeing around your host's city. Be clear about the likely dates and budget, but do not buy costly non-refundable tickets merely to show the officer a flight reservation. Official guidance says there is no guarantee of issuance and recommends waiting until the visa is received before final travel commitments.

FAMILY VISAS

U.S. Tourist Visa for a Married Couple, Children or a Family

If a couple or family wants to travel together, each person who needs a visa must have an individual application. A child's application is not automatically approved because a parent has a visa. Fees, passports and any required interviews or additional steps should be checked separately for each applicant. The appointment portal may support family scheduling, but it still needs each applicant's details.

Current State Department guidance generally requires an in-person interview for nonimmigrant visa applicants, including children under 14 and adults over 79, except for limited listed exemptions. Old travel articles often say small children never attend interviews, but that broad claim is no longer dependable. Always verify the rules for each family member before the appointment.

Consider the practical needs of children when traveling to Casablanca: the travel time, snacks, weather and instructions about what can enter the consulate matter. If you are applying as a group, be consistent about trip duration and who is paying for the holiday. A family application does not remove the requirement to qualify for the correct visa.

VISA RENEWAL

Can You Renew a U.S. Tourist Visa Without an Interview?

Some people renewing an existing B-1, B-2 or B1/B2 visa may qualify for an interview waiver, but it is not a general rule for everyone. Under the State Department update effective October 1, 2025, certain adult applicants renewing a full-validity visitor visa within 12 months of its expiration may be eligible when other conditions are met. The applicant generally must have been at least 18 when the earlier visa was issued, apply in the country of nationality or usual residence, and meet the refusal and ineligibility criteria.

Even an applicant who appears to meet those conditions may be asked to attend an interview. Do not post your passport to an unofficial address or assume 'dropbox' procedures work the same way as they did years ago. Use the current official interview-waiver guidance and follow the Morocco appointment portal's individual instructions.

APPOINTMENT WAIT TIMES

How Long Does a U.S. Tourist Visa Take in Morocco?

There are at least three different time periods to think about: the wait to obtain an interview appointment, any processing after the interview, and the actual trip dates. They are not the same. The U.S. Department of State updates its global interview wait-time table, but displayed numbers are estimates and cannot predict the exact appointment date for every applicant.

As of the official table updated September 17, 2026, the Casablanca row gives an estimated visitor-visa appointment wait around three months; these values can change as slots are released and should not be treated as a guaranteed timeline. Check the live official Global Visa Wait Times page before planning your trip. Extra administrative processing after the interview may take additional time.

Apply comfortably ahead of your desired departure rather than booking a non-refundable flight first. If you have a serious urgent reason to travel, read the official appointment service for any stated expedited procedure. Do not trust paid advertisements promising same-day appointments or automatic approval. Keep your plans flexible until the passport is returned.

REFUSALS

Why a Tourist Visa May Be Refused: 214(b) and 221(g)

Some visa refusals occur under section 214(b) of U.S. immigration law. In broad terms, the officer was not satisfied that the applicant had established eligibility for the requested temporary visa. This may involve questions about the trip purpose, ties outside the United States or the applicant's overall circumstances. It is not necessarily an accusation of dishonesty and there is no universal document that reverses this decision.

A case handled under section 221(g) may involve missing documents, incomplete information or additional administrative processing. Follow any written instructions carefully, because the appropriate next step depends on what the consular officer asked for. A refusal under 221(g) should not be treated as identical to a 214(b) decision.

A person refused under 214(b) may generally reapply, but must submit a new application and usually pay the application fee again. Reapplying immediately with the same information is not a reliable strategy. Consider whether your circumstances have materially changed, and do not provide false documents or misrepresent facts in an effort to improve your chances. For detailed legal explanations, consult the Department of State's visa denials guide.

ApprovalThe consulate can issue the visa after applicable processingFollow passport return instructions
214(b) refusalVisitor eligibility not established under the lawReview the refusal notice and consider real changed circumstances
221(g) document requestMore information or documents are neededFollow written instructions and deadlines

VISA VALIDITY

Moroccan B1/B2 Visa Validity: Does Ten Years Mean a Ten-Year Stay?

The current U.S. reciprocity schedule lists Moroccan B-1, B-2 and B1/B2 visas as potentially valid for 120 months (ten years), with multiple entries and no additional reciprocity issuance fee. That describes a standard validity schedule for eligible visa issuance, not a personal promise that every applicant will receive exactly that validity. The visa printed in the passport controls the actual dates and entries for that document.

More importantly, visa validity is not permitted stay length. A valid multiple-entry visa may let you request admission on several separate trips during its validity, but a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer decides whether you can enter and how long your stay is authorized each time. Your admission record (often available as an electronic I-94) matters. Do not assume each visit is automatically six months, and never confuse the visa expiration date with your permitted departure date.

Read both the official Morocco visa reciprocity schedule and the meaning of U.S. visa expiration dates. Overstaying can seriously affect future eligibility.

“A ten-year visa can permit repeated requests to enter. It is not permission to live in the United States for ten years.”

AFTER APPROVAL

After the Interview: Approval, Passport Return and Travel to America

If the consular officer approves your visa, follow the local instructions to receive your passport. In some cases further administrative processing can still be necessary. Do not assume that a verbal conversation means the passport is immediately ready to travel. Check the final printed visa for the correct name, passport details, category and dates when it is returned.

Once you have your visa, make a realistic itinerary for a temporary visit and arrange travel insurance if suitable for your trip. Readers comparing inbound and outbound journeys can also learn about our Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour and Morocco holidays from Marrakech as a separate topic. Carry important documents and the address of your first stay. At the U.S. airport, the border officer may ask about your purpose, where you will stay and how long you plan to remain. Answer truthfully and keep track of the allowed stay on your admission record.

If you hope to travel internationally again after returning to Morocco, plan future journeys around your actual work, family and holiday schedule. Travelers interested in Morocco nature trips might like our bird watching tours in Morocco; this does not help a U.S. visa application. Moorish Tour's one-week itinerary in Morocco and three-day Morocco travel ideas are useful for visitors coming the other direction, from the United States to Morocco, rather than for obtaining a U.S. visa.

SCAM PREVENTION

Avoid Visa Scams, Fake Appointments and Misleading Advice

Visa scams can appear as Facebook messages, WhatsApp offers, fake embassy accounts, paid 'guaranteed interview' appointments, invented sponsorship documents or websites with addresses that imitate official services. Be cautious whenever a person claims an inside connection at the consulate or promises a visa in exchange for a large payment. No legitimate agency can make a U.S. consular officer approve a visitor visa.

Check the address bar before entering passport numbers, birth dates or payment details. Use the official ceac.state.gov DS-160 form and navigate to local booking details through official government and visa-service resources. Never share an appointment login, passport scan or bank statement with unknown people online. If someone offers to complete a DS-160 for you, review every answer and make sure you retain control of your information.

A travel blog can explain the process, but immigration eligibility and visa decisions belong to the U.S. government. Moorish Tour publishes travel information and organizes experiences in Morocco; it cannot provide visa approvals, privileged interview slots or legal representation. Readers with complex immigration histories can seek advice from a qualified U.S. immigration lawyer.

  • Use the official DS-160 website: ceac.state.gov/genniv/
  • Follow instructions from the U.S. consular mission and designated appointment portal
  • Treat promises of a guaranteed visa or secret interview as fraud warnings
  • Never use fake bank records, employment papers or invitations
  • Do not send government fees to private personal accounts
  • Keep copies of your confirmation pages and payment records

TRAVEL BETWEEN COUNTRIES

Travel Between Morocco and the United States: Planning Tips

People planning tourism between Morocco and the United States often begin their journey in Casablanca, one of Morocco's main international gateways. Other airports can work depending on your airline route and connections. The best flight choice depends on your destination in America, luggage requirements, transit arrangements and current schedules. Check whether a transit country requires separate documents; a U.S. visitor visa does not automatically replace other countries' transit rules.

When visiting the United States, allow time to recover from a long flight and avoid planning an overpacked first day. Our how to pack and dress for Marrakech is written for the opposite journey—Americans coming to Morocco—but illustrates why destination-specific planning matters. Keep the first hotel address and basic contact details available. If you are staying with family, agree on transportation, dates and costs before departure. Travel plans should fit the temporary visit described in your application rather than turning into an open-ended stay.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS

U.S. Tourist Visa from Morocco: Common Questions and Answers

Below are straightforward answers to questions people in Morocco frequently ask. Official procedures can change, so confirm any time-sensitive detail against the government sources linked in this article.

Do Moroccan citizens need a U.S. tourist visa?

Yes. An ordinary Moroccan passport holder generally needs a B-2 or combined B1/B2 visa for a temporary tourist trip to the United States.

Where do I apply for a USA tourist visa in Morocco?

Complete the DS-160 online, use the designated visa appointment service for Morocco and follow the instructions for interviews at the U.S. Consulate General in Casablanca.

How much is the U.S. tourist visa application fee?

The published standard B visitor visa application fee is US$185. It is normally non-refundable. Check the current appointment portal for the Moroccan-dirham amount and any other applicable charges.

Is the U.S. visitor visa valid for ten years for Moroccans?

The Moroccan reciprocity schedule lists a potential 120-month multiple-entry B1/B2 validity, but each issued visa must be checked individually. Validity is not the permitted length of each stay.

What is the DS-160?

It is the electronic nonimmigrant visa application form that applicants submit before scheduling or attending a U.S. visitor visa interview.

Is a bank statement compulsory and how much money do I need?

There is no universal official minimum bank balance. Financial evidence may be requested, but the officer considers the total trip circumstances and the person's ability to cover costs.

Can I apply if I am unemployed?

You may apply, but must truthfully explain your situation, temporary travel purpose and financial arrangements. Approval depends on your individual eligibility.

Do I need an invitation letter from my American relative?

No. The State Department says invitation letters and affidavits of support are not required for a standard visitor visa and do not replace showing your own eligibility.

Can a tourist visa allow me to work in the USA?

No. Ordinary U.S. employment requires appropriate work authorization and usually another visa category.

Can I attend a U.S. tourist visa interview in Rabat?

Routine visitor visa interviews in Morocco are associated with the U.S. Consulate General in Casablanca. Check the appointment portal; do not assume the embassy in Rabat handles routine interviews.

Do children need to attend a visa interview?

Current rules generally require in-person interviews for nonimmigrant visa applicants, including young children, except limited exemptions. Check each child's appointment instructions.

Can I renew my B1/B2 visa without attending an interview?

Some qualifying adult renewals within 12 months of a previous full-validity visa's expiration may be eligible for an interview waiver, subject to several conditions and consular discretion.

How long does a U.S. visa appointment take in Morocco?

It varies. The official wait-time table dated September 17, 2026 showed a roughly three-month next-available visitor appointment estimate in Casablanca; recheck the live table because slots and delays change.

What happens if the consulate refuses my visa under 214(b)?

It generally means you did not establish eligibility for the requested temporary category. You can review the notice and consider reapplying when your genuine circumstances have changed, usually with a new application fee.

What is a 221(g) refusal?

It may mean additional documents or administrative processing are needed. Follow the instructions supplied by the consular officer.

Does having a visa guarantee I will enter the United States?

No. A U.S. border officer determines admission and the allowed stay when you arrive.

Can Moorish Tour arrange a U.S. visa for me?

No. Moorish Tour provides general travel information and Morocco tour services, not official U.S. visa decisions, legal advice or guaranteed appointment bookings.
